Instagram, if you’re unfamiliar with it, is a social network similar to Facebook and Snapchat, that allows you to post different kinds of content and interact with other people through the internet.
Instagram was started to appeal to our social media generation, and most of the content that you find on Instagram is geared more towards pictures and videos and away from written text.
I talk a lot in my real estate series about how I’ve done a lot of work with millennials. I do this because not only am I a part of that demographic, and interact well with clients that I have something in common with, but also, millennials are spending the most money on real estate now as first time homebuyers, so it makes sense for me to be targeting them in my real estate business model.
I love using Instagram, because it’s experiencing tremendous growth. As an internet platform, there are over 600 million Instagrammers and over 400 million of those use it every single day. 95 million photos and videos are shared per day, and over 40 billion photos and videos have been shared since Instagram’s conception.
With over 50% of users logging in daily, it’s a very active platform— users are extremely engaging. It’s also very versatile as a platform because it allows not only pictures but so many other types of content too, like video, live content, and fun photo filters. I also love the “stories” feature, which allows you to post temporary content that’s available for 24 hours before it disappears. It’s a fun way to keep everything current and exciting.
I always encourage other real estate agents to set up Instagram accounts and use them every day. You should be consistent when creating your account though. The username and should reflect your name and business. It should match your other social media handles when possible. You should use the same pictures and colors that you’ve used on your other pages to keep the branding similar.
Remember that it’s a business page, so you should keep all content professional—- click here for a sample of some of my Instagram content.
If you’re not an agent and you’re looking to learn more about real estate in general, I am constantly posting creative posts that show a behind the scenes look at what I’m doing on the day to day with my real estate team. They are loaded with information and my best tips and tricks. If you’re ever thinking about buying a home in the future, you should definitely friend me!
