Everyone wants to know exactly what needs to be done to get started in real estate as a real estate agent, and it’s actually pretty simple. It did not take much time to get started in real estate but it can feel like a long time. The good thing is the steps are not hard to follow and I’m going to give you the exact steps you can take.
I’m doing this in hopes that you can get a better understanding of how it all works. Something to note is that these steps may vary by whatever state you’re looking to work in because every state has different laws and rules so be sure to check your local real estate commission website.
I had to do to get started in real estate was pretty simple. The first thing I had to do was I had to enroll in real estate courses and that was pretty easy to find. You can attend any school that is licensed in your state. You can simply do a search to find all of the real estate schools that are licensed in your state. I would probably check out the reviews of the school before deciding on one. If you choose to take your classes online, check out this online real estate school.
I personally enrolled in real estate school and took all of my courses online but you can take yours in the classroom if you’re more comfortable with that. If you are interested in knowing the differences between online and classroom, you can check out this video.
Once you finish your courses you will need to register for the actual state exam and here in Texas there was a little bit of a waiting period from when you registered to when you actually get to take your test. I would recommend registering for your exam right after you pass your final exam in your real estate course.
It is a smart idea to take a cram course right before you take the actual state real estate exam. I chose to do this because I wanted to make sure that everything was fresh in my head for when I did go and take that test and I will say, that test was no joke. The test was very tricky and honestly, I didn’t think that I would pass on my first attempt. It’s not uncommon for people to take the real estate exam a few times and so don’t get discouraged if you do fail your test and the first time because they make those tests to be very tricky.
Once you pass your test then you have to actually register for your license.
There was a little bit of a lag time and here in Texas, you must get fingerprints and background checked to make sure that everything clears out. Once you’re licensed you get to have your license hung at a brokerage. While you’re waiting for your license to become active you should go and interview with real estate brokers and companies to see where you want to actually work. Once you choose a broker and get your license, you are full on set to go.
Here in Texas. once licensed and active, you will join our local REALTOR® board and association. Whatever area you’re located in, there will be a local REALTOR® association that you can join. There are costs associated with this so just make sure you get all your details and be prepared for what you may have to pay.
Wrapping everything up, those are the steps you will need to complete to even get started as a real estate agent. You will need to join a real estate school, pass your state exam, join a brokerage, and finally, join your local REALTOR® association. Once you complete these things, you are ready to go out an sell real estate.
