Day In The Life Of A Real Estate Agent

When I first started as a real estate agent, I had no idea what I would encounter in the day in the life of a real estate agent. The most I knew about a real estate agent’s daily life was that they had the freedom to do whatever they wanted. I imagined that there would be showings, contracts, and training but I had no idea what I would experience until I became a busy real estate agent myself.

The first thing to note about the daily life of a real estate agent is that it can be very unpredictable. Unlike a traditional job where you click in and clock out, in real estate, your start and end times could vary significantly on a daily basis. One moment you could be going into the office and the next moment you could be driving across town to meet a client.

So what does my day as a real estate agent actually look like?

6:00 AM is when my day starts. I typically get done all of the household stuff and get myself ready to go out for the day. This could include eating breakfast, working out, meditating, reading, etc. Since I don’t have kids, I’m not having to do any school runs so that doesn’t take time out of my day. Depending on what day of the month it is, I may have a meeting or tour to attend before I go into the office. If not, I’m headed straight to the office to begin my workday.

You can see in this video below what I’m talking about

From the morning until lunchtime, I’m in the office. There’s a lot of work to be done just inside the office. Since prospecting is the #1 activity that we do as real estate agents, the morning is a great time to prospect for new business. Prospecting involves cold calling, following up with past clients, and also reaching out to new leads. Sometimes prospecting could involve calling other agents to seek out new sales opportunities or inform them of new listings. You can see me doing that in this video.

After lunchtime. I will head out into the field to attend appointments. The appointments could include listing appointments, home showings, marketing meetings, or even meetings with referral partners. Depending on the type of appointment it is, I like to cap them at 1 hour but sometimes they could take 2.

Before the end of the day, I typically will go back into the office to do another round of office work and prospecting. If my workload is pretty light, I may go out and tour a new property before I head home. You can see me doing that in this video where I am touring a new rental community that just opened.

The daily life of a real estate agent can be different from day to day. In fact, everything I mentioned in this post is what happens on a light and easy day.

Things can get so much more hectic. The important thing to remember is, it’s an adventure. Each day is an adventure. There are ups and there’s down but most of all, it’s unpredictable. Basically, your day in the life of a real estate agent is what you make it!
